Jim Davidson Writes A Blog

Best of the Jim Davidson blog

It is pretty much as you would expect, poorly written, filled with hatred for others, stupid comments about skin colour and hilarious for all the wrong reasons.  Jim doesn't know how to turn the spell check on and displays only a fleeting grasp of punctuation.

"Talking of the Olympics… Let’s hope that our black people beat all the other black people!" - Jim Davidson.

I am now so old I can remember when Lenny Henry used to funny, I can't say the same about Jim Davidson though.

#creepingsharia

The headline ? It's a hashtag, which isn't the price marker on a small bag of herbs sold by that dodgy bloke out the back of the Slug & Lettuce, but a way of finding similarly themed tweets.  If you are a Twitterer that is.

Anyway, the racist dunderheads from the EDL have tried to use the #creepingsharia hashtag to get their supporters to report incidences of Sharia law and build up a body of evidence to prove their frankly ridiculous claim that Sharia law is being implemented in the UK.  As almost everyone who is opposed to the EDL is brighter than the average skinhead, this tactic has rapidly been hijacked and subverted by Twitter users.

Britain Is More Than Full

Map of Britain in PunjabiI got a copy of Issues : Racial Discrimination from the library, this is supposed to be an educational resource series aimed at GCSE/A-lvl students which I thought might be handy to give me a bit of background for the immigration experience section I am studying at the moment.  On only the second page though was this piece of information...

Children Under 16 by Ethnic Group 2001-2

88% white
6%  asian or asian british
3%  black or black british
3%  mixed
1%  other

That's right folks, Britian is at 101% capacity. So if the proofreader let that glaring error slip through, how can I rely on the 'facts' presented in the rest of the series ?

Strange Fruit

The photograph that was cited by the songwrite...Image via Wikipedia

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black body swinging in the Southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant South,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolia sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh!

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

- Abel Meeropol

The photograph shows the lynching of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith on August 7th 1930 in Marion, Indiana, Meeropol is reported to have written the poem after seeing this photograph. Although the photograph has shown up on the Zementa content widget, there appears to be some controversy over its copyright status as Wikipedia offers this explanation for fair use "Fair use rationale for Strange Fruit: This exact image inspired the poem Strange Fruit and is used in the article to illustrate this inspiration. The image is irreplaceable for this purpose."

The guy at the back, isn't he the one who goes crazy and tops himself in Full Metal jacket ?
